Excuses & Discouragement

Luke 14:18a — But without exception they all began to make excuses …
Does this parable ring true for you? Have you spent time and energy preparing for an event, only for no one show? Sometimes when we invite people to Jesus, they find every excuse to avoid, distract, and ignore the invitation. It’s tough knowing that if they would just give Jesus a chance, they could see that He is love and desires to provide forgiveness, grace, and eternal life with Him.
I want to encourage you to not give up on inviting others to Jesus, even when those close to you are not interested. Go out and find people who want to be invited. I’m reminded of a time years ago when hiking in Nicaragua. A man saw us approaching his village and invited us to tell his town about Jesus because they did not believe him. Let’s fill up the table God is preparing and not get discouraged when the invitation is met with excuses.
Prayer Prompt
Ask God to remind you that when we feel hated that the world in fact hated Him first (John 15:18). Ask Him to encourage you to keep the invitation open even when we feel unheard or only hear excuses.
